PROFESSOR DURO ONI

Prof Duro Oni was born in Minna, Niger State on 15 December 1952. He attended the university of Ibadan between 1971 – 1973. He then proceeded to California Institute of the Arts where he was from 1981 till 1983. From 1998 to 2002, he was back in University of Ibadan where he obtained his Ph. D. He is a fellow of the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artistes. Professor Duro Oni is also a Senior Overseas Fellow of Freguson Centre for Asian and African Studies, UK. Presently, he is the Dean, Faculty of Art, University of Lagos. Professor Duro Oni has participated in many national and international festivals and holds a number of honours and awards to his credits. He is an astute writer and theater practitioner. Professor Duro Oni is well known in the field of Art, however, he is a man of many parts. He is a prolific writer with many books to his credit. He is also a daring and a courageous man. It takes a lot of courage to for an ‘art man’ to write a book such as “lighting Design and the Development of Modern Stage Lighting Practice in Nigeria”, thus providing leadership for the practice and scholarship of design and technology of Nigerian theatre. Professor Duro Oni is a distinguished and versatile scholar who never hesitates to contribute to the development of his society through his cultural activism. He is also very passionate about developing young minds. One thing that stands him out is his love for training and education. Today, he remains a valuable inspiration to all that knows him.
