Fola Ogunsola Foundation

As the job market in Nigeria becomes increasingly saturated and competitive, more graduates are finding it difficult to secure employment. In response to this reality, the Fola Ogunsola Foundation (FOF) is advocating for a shift in mindset among young Nigerians—from job-seekers to job-creators.

At one of our recent empowerment seminars, Mrs. Fola Ogunsola addressed the urgent need for graduates to acquire basic entrepreneurial skills in order to survive and thrive in today’s economy. She emphasized that while academic qualifications remain important, self-reliance through entrepreneurship is fast becoming a necessary life skill.

According to Mrs. Ogunsola, “We live in a country where the number of graduates far exceeds the number of available jobs. Waiting endlessly for employment is no longer a viable option. Our young people must begin to see themselves as creators of opportunities, not just consumers of them.”

The seminar explored practical ways that students and recent graduates can leverage their skills, passions, and creativity to start small businesses—even with limited resources. Topics included how to identify viable business ideas, the basics of managing finances, and the power of networking and social capital.

Participants also heard real-life success stories from young entrepreneurs who started small ventures during or shortly after university and are now running sustainable businesses. These stories helped demystify the concept of entrepreneurship and inspired attendees to take action.

FOF believes that if Nigerian graduates are equipped with entrepreneurial thinking, they will be more adaptable, proactive, and better positioned to navigate the economic challenges that lie ahead. Entrepreneurship also fosters independence, leadership, and innovation—traits that are valuable in any career path.

Moreover, the Foundation highlighted the role of soft skills—such as communication, time management, and problem-solving—as essential companions to any business venture. It’s not enough to have an idea; one must be able to execute it effectively and persistently.

The Fola Ogunsola Foundation remains committed to building a generation of empowered youth who are not afraid to lead, create, and take responsibility for their future. Through ongoing seminars, mentoring programs, and strategic partnerships, we continue to encourage Nigerian graduates to embrace entrepreneurship as a powerful tool for personal and national development.
