According to a human resource expert, most Nigerian graduates are unemployable, largely because they lack the required skills and attitude for the workplace.
Eighty per cent of the products of Nigerian tertiary institutions are not employable, a management and human resources expert has said.
Fola Ogunsola of the Fola Ogunsola Foundation (FOF) made the assertion at a one-day “Life After Campus Seminar”, jointly organized by the foundation and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the institution’s final year graduates, Daily Independent reports.
According to her, Nigerian graduates are not fit for the working place because they lack skills, the right attitude and exhibit a lot of pride.
Ogunsola said many of these graduates cannot complete simple tasks like writing basic letters or do follow up projects
This inadequacy, she said, is the reason for the high unemployment rate in the country.
She said FOF is helping to reduce unemployment in the country by reorienting graduates and helping them appreciate the realities around them as well as teach them skills and work attitudes that will aid them in securing employment.
The foundation plans to take the “Life After Campus Seminar” to other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
